The Slug House Story

Big and small, we can save them all!

As an avid outdoorswoman and biologist, many of my pieces are inspired by plants, animals, and destinations that I’ve visited. Every year over 150,000 species go extinct. And this is only projected to increase to a loss of 1/3 of species on Earth by 2050. I believe the first step of conservation is appreciation and through my art I hope to encourage more people to love, care, and fight for our planet.

The Slug House is dedicated to being as sustainable as possible utilizing recycled canvases, frames, brushes, decor, etc.

Why are we called The Slug House?

Mollusks have always intrigued me just because they are so different from mammals, fish, and birds; what are they?!?! They really are creatures of their own category and in observing them I’ve found a few truths:

1) Persistence is key. You don’t need to rush everywhere, you’ll get there eventually, just keep going forward.

2) Vulnerability isn’t always a weakness. The slimy squishy skin of mollusks can be a drawback but it also allows them to be vulnerable, absorb the positives (like water), and fit into small spaces, keeping them safe and happy. A hard exterior isn’t the best asset for every situation.

3) Everything comes back around again. As decomposers, slugs turn dead materials into fertilizer and organic matter which returns nutrients to the soil and food chain. Everything in life is a cycle, and ends are really just changes.
